ZA8

Foundry Zinc alloy.

ZA 8 conforms to BS EN 1774, which can be used in sand or permanent mould casting processes. Originally developed by Noranda research in Canada the ZA alloy range was specifically intended to broaden the range of applications for zinc alloys.

Application

In its gravity diecast form ZA 8 is particularly suitable for the manufacture of thin, complex castings in small quantities. The alloy has superb fluidity and will accept reasonable levels of superheat allowing it to be used in applications where long flow distances and thin sections are anticipated.

In permanent mould applications it will produce intricate parts with excellent surface finish which are ideal for powder coating or chrome plating. As cast parts have reasonable corrosion resistance under normal atmospheric conditions.

The low aluminium content of this alloy allows it to be used for non-sparking applications such as mining or hazardous environments. Other properties such as good machinability, pressure tightness and good light load bearing properties combine to make this alloy a very adaptable material for low stressed complex parts.
